Look for places that describe the chains in detail, includng not just the length and width of the links, but the wire gauge and whether links are soldered or not. From various disappointing experiences in ordering chains, I usually start by ordering the smallest possible quantity (even as small as one inch!) so I can evaluate the chain before buying a spool or long length. Another thing to consider is whether the seller takes returns. Most will not take returns of chain that’s been cut to order. However, Plazko.com is one that sells various precut lengths, and at least they used to take returns on them. I would double check that though to make sure their return policy has not changed. They also sell on Etsy, and they have good customer service if you have questions or problems. In sum, buying chain is tricky so take your time to be sure what you are getting!

It takes a while to build up stock but once I did I know the rings and clasps I purchase will be a consistent color with my chains; added benefit I know the quality and can get more easily without waiting. I pay less than 0.01 vent per inch including tax. Also no wait for shipping.

Also see this previous post on JMJ – although it was about gold chains, I think many of the sources recommended in the comments below that post could be possibilities for what you’re looking for:
