Sometimes removing the stem like yours, but often I leave it on and stack large-hole beads on it, then epoxy it in place. They look fantastic on leather, & rope as well as the chains. I often find the best buckles in thrift shops on worn-out or odd-size belts. The matching keepers can be worked into the design, or used alone in another project.
