Using a Mannequin in Your Jewelry Display
by Kathi Ader.
(Waterford, MI)
As prom time approached last year I began looking for a mannequin to use in my display. After a lot of searching I discovered that I can’t afford one!
How disappointing . . . until I found a local costume shop that was willing to let me borrow one.
Since then I have used the mannequin in all my shows and it means SALES! I place it at the very front of my booth with an eyecatching dress (usually borrowed from a friend with a teen) and of course a beautiful piece of jewelry.
I always sell what’s on the mannequin and often have to replace it with another piece. Using a mannequin is a great way to attract attention to your booth and increase sales.
(p.s. – I have seen the type of mannequin I use recently in a display catalog and they are actually pretty reasonably priced versus a full mannequin.)
If you have questions, please contact me through my email on my website.

Great Use for a Mannequin
by: Rena
What a good idea, Kathy!
The mannequin really gives your booth a professional look – and you can change her outfits to go with the season or show.
I can see why “she” is such a good salesperson for you! :o)
Mannequins are also often available for reasonable prices on eBay.
How about a dress form?
by: Laurie
I have a dress form that is just sitting around (no time to sew…I’ve been making jewelry!). I’ve often wondered if I should try to use my dress form as a mannequin. With the right blouse, I think it might work.
Thanks Kathy, for spirring me on to give it a try!
Mannequins

I have been using a dress form as a mannequin for some time now. Now that my booth has moved to the front of the mall, and includes a window for display, I decided I needed a full mannequin. I found one at a reasonable cost. (I can afford it since my sales have doubled since the move.) The window is my granddaughters domain and she will be dressing “Jewel” and selecting the jewelry for her to wear. There seems to be something almost magical in the response to mannequin displays. I love it.

Hi Great display. where did you get your sign above the table?

I made the sign on my computer using my business card logo (I used avery software-free download). I bought a poster frame and added hooks to hang it.

I keep a wrinkle-free sleeveless black dress in with my supplies. It goes with everything and always looks nice.
Backdrop

How did you make your backdrop? I need a backdrop that is easy to transport to hang my corrugated sign on. Thanks!
