I haven’t tried the Awesome or Goo Gone but I will soon. Maybe I’ll have to polish the aluminum first, etch, and then use aa Scotch-Brite type pad after to get the finish I want. The toner really sticks in the texture.

Takes off all kinds of stuff and you can get a very small bottle of it at the hardware store. A little goes a long way.

Try rubbing it on a plain piece of the aluminum first. I found this inexpensive liquid to be a charm for removing lots of unwanted substances. Use a cotton swab to get it where you want it. Rinse it off well. Good luck.
