I share your preference for working with textiles over manipulating metals. What a creative, original solution. Thank you for sharing.

I am obsessed with recycling, and Your idea is a fabulous way to redo thrift store found jewelry, or even match up a bunch of unrelated earrings to bracelets. Or even make dollar store jewelry look artful, and one of a kind.

I like the rich textures, and use of such a variety of materials. You have inspired me to try my own unique creations. I think I will wrap little pieces of wood that I find on my nature walks. Thank you.

Thank you for your kind comments. I definitely focus on colour in my pieces. This is the first time I have done a thread-wrapped collection. I don’t treat or seal the pieces with anything. Jewellery made with soft textiles obviously isn’t as durable as metal jewellery or pieces made with hard elements. I liken it to a delicate lace blouse or that type of fine, feminine garment. Extra care needs to be taken, and I advise my customers of that. That being said, I over-wrap the pieces with layers, and often add other embellishments on top, which helps to protect it.

So nice to see colors and not just gold, silver, brass or bronze. How does the necklace and bracelets wear over time? Do they threads break from friction or do you do something to seal them to prevent breakage?

I definitely feel more of a connection with textile elements. Wire just doesn’t really inspire me, although I love some of the designs and elements I see made by it, such as spirals and swirls. And I find I get frustrated easily by working with it. I love the softness of textiles, although of course the softness means you can’t do the same things with it as you can with wire. So I have to think of other ways to get the results you would get by wire-wrapping, if I don’t want to do that. And the colours make me happy! 🙂

Thank you for sharing these unique thread-wrapped pieces. I love the colors you chose and the additional elements you included in each piece. Dramatically beautiful. Interesting that wrapping wire would feel tedious to you, but you enjoy wrapping threads. Maybe you have more of a “connection” with thread and how it behaves? Or maybe it’s the colors and feel of the threads?
