I’ve had an Etsy business for a year now, some jewelry and many other things (www.chakradreams.etsy.com) and out of everyone I’ve asked- and I’ve asked MANY people- it seems they ALL really rely on other Etsy sellers to get business…do NO outside advertising.

I just opened a FB page and have a download from Hubspot (they offer MANY tips for free) on how to get more clients using FB if anyone is interested (just email me at chakradreams1@gmail.com or “convo” me on Etsy. It SOUNDS good, but now I must put it to practice. Sounds like some of you are having good luck with your pages, some not so much. My own, I have virtually nothing up there, as whenever I go to it I get my “admin” page, not the page you all would see- and I have no idea how to see what you do, so I’m actually kind of scared to write on it, not knowing how it will show up!! LOL.

I have done a LOT on Twitter- run contests and gone through months just educating people on color therapy (my “thing”)- get lots n’ lots of followers through that, I have over 1000, but nobody interacts with me even when I ask questions. Beyond that, I don’t know if I’ve gotten ANY business from Twitter, and am about to quit- unless anyone knows why I shouldn’t. THIS is my year to really concentrate on marketing- I’m opening a website soon and blog, hope they will help and I will eventually be on my own, out of Etsy. Anyone have any other good advice?

Thanks so much,
Lisa

I have a website, Etsy shop, Facebook page, and I now use Twitter. I like Facebook the most though because it lets me interact directly with people. I have had a few sales as a result of Facebook, but not a lot. For me it’s mainly getting to know other sellers in my area. As a result, I’ve gotten involved in local homeshows that Facebook “friends” have told me about; I’m able to interact with groups that I support…mainly my local SPCA, but also other groups have contacted me for donations as they see that I support amimal causes (I post pics on my FB page of my donations, etc.); and I’ve been able to network much more effectively than on any of the other media.

I have a live feed on my website of my FB page and I have my FB page status updates connected to my Twitter page 🙂 I still want to open shops on some of the other selling sites, like ArtFire, but haven’t yet. It’s a lot of work to keep up with the few things I have going on right now…maybe when I retire!!!! 🙂

I will give this a try. And Rena, I just love this journal you’ve put together. I have seen/read so much from it and I’m always getting tips and advise…Even when I wasn’t really looking for help!:-)

To get a link for my facebook page I just selected the address in the bar at the top and copied it, then went into my website and pasted it there. Then I tried clicking on the link whilst logged out of facebook it in case it didn’t work – but it seems to for me. The address looks like this: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Natasha-Fraser-Handcrafted-Jewellery/126632744059888 (you can see my two blog and fb links at the bottom of my homepage: http://www.natashafraser.com as an example if you like)
It’s not the prettiest but it works. I have seen something on my facebook page before that says send a link for your page to your friends but I can’t find it now! How typical. Try copying the link for now and I’ll see if I can find the other way.
Hope it works for you 🙂

I appreciate all your viewpoints – It’s helpful to get input from others doing the same thing as myself. And Natasha, I’m not sure how to get the facebook link on my website. Could use some help with that…

I have a Facebook page, a blog, and a shop on Maille Market. So far most of the interactions I’ve gotten is through Facebook though I’m not sure Maille Market is a fair comparison. I’ve been thinking for awhile about opening a shop on HandmadeArtists.com however I’ve recently thought more about adding an app to my Facebook page to create a shop directly on Facebook. I’ll probably do both and see which of the three shops work best for me. As for my thoughts on Facebook in general, I think it’s another great tool to reach a wider audience.

I have 1300 fans. I hardly get comments when I post pictures and I update all the time. I haven’t had one sale from it either. And now I was fixing up my page and accidentley lost connection to my page and can’t get access. I am waiting for facebook to get back to me to help me 4 days later and still no help. I might have to start all over and lose all my fans I worked hard to get. I think it is good to have so people see you and know about you. But Fortunately I haven’t had any hits from it. And have never got a sale from it yet and I have had for at least 3 years.
Here is my page if you would like to look. facebook.com/Romanceinsilvercreatedbyantoinette

And that your webshop, facebook, and blog all have each others links.

I don’t update mine as often as I should but I use it to announce new designs by uploading my new photos with little descriptions, and I post a link to my blog every time I update that – it may seem like duplication but there are different groups following the blog and facebook so it means I get them all. Start by getting all your friends and family to “like” your page and soon you’ll find that some of their friends will “like” it too. I also upload pictures of how I made things with little explainations of how to use the tools etc.

You could try uploading new pieces and have a competetion asking people to think of good names for the pieces.

I also have been taken photos of myself in all different places with a bead mat out and tools (just like the kids used to with ironing boards) – I plan to upload them for a laugh and call it extreme beading. I have some of me in the car, at my computer at work, in the forest etc. I haven’t been brave enough to do it in the supermarket yet though 🙂 Just a quirky idea to get people laughing.

On a serious note I do make sure all my webshop items are in an album on facebook, and also all the commissions I have made so no matter which webpage people find me on they can see everything straight away and either fall in love with something or be inspired to ask for a commission.

Hope that helps.

In the past year I have FB, Art Fire & Etsy & I do craft shows. I have sold most of my items through Facebook~ friends and now friends of friends and others are finding me. It takes time to build an audience but FB is free and easy. Just make sure to look over the FB rules for your page because they can close your page if you don’t follow the guidelines. Good Luck

If you post regularly something of interest to your likers you may get some response and more likers. I’ve sold a few things on the site – mostly in the last year as my likers increased, and its useful to stay in contact with customers who are also on facebook.
