When your jewelry tools are new, they need to be checked on leftover wire to see if there are rough edges inside the claws, clamps, sides, etc.

To check, clamp the tool down on old wire.

If there are marks on the wire, use a metal nail file or small jewelry file to smooth the rough edges on the tool until they feel soft.

Try the tool on the wire. If it still leaves a mark, file and smooth until it does not mark.

If your wire does get marked, take the smooth part of the outside of file and rub gently against the mark.

You can also try a very fine regular file to carefully smooth.

Plated metals may not clean up well so be very careful. Good luck
