Old Fashioned Summer

The focus of this piece is a vintage beaded collar that I found at a garage sale. It is much like a beaded collar that my mother gave to me when I was 12 years old.

I thought it was beautiful, but it somehow got lost over the years. Now that I haunt antique malls, flea markets and yard sales on a regular basis, I have picked up several of these treasures.

When creating this necklace, I knew that I wanted to keep the collar intact. I started by hand-sewing a backing onto the collar, extending it past the collar on both sides. I then created the flowers and hand-sewed them onto the extended backing.

I created the tie from the same fabric as the flowers.
