Night Hawks Inspiration

This necklace and earring set is my entry into the Art Bead Scene Challenge for June…American artist Edward Hopper’s Night Hawks iconic painting.

I chose to focus on the woman in a red dress in the diner. For this project, I tried making polymer clay beads for the very first time, after exploring some tutorials on the internet.

Took a deep breath and channeled my inner preschooler at the play doh table. The pendent and earring beads were made with a primary red polymer clay. After drying, they were painted with a mixture of black acrylic paint and a staining antiquing medium.

Wiped most of it off. Dry. Coat with a satin varnish. Love the old cinnabar look of these and perfect for the jewelry set I had in mind for the Lady in Red.

I will definitely make more of these!
