Welcome, Nora! I’m so glad you’ve found us here. 🙂 I agree that the inspiration of a theme can lead to wonderful jewelry designs – and even lead us to new jewelry directions we’ve never considered before! And that when I look at one of my theme-inspired pieces years later, I clearly remember how the design evolved.

So glad I did this search on how to name a piece of jewelry. I just started about 3 months ago and named my pieces right after I took tonusing semi- previous gemstones. I too, find it easier to design a piece when starting with a theme. It is interesting to note how similar the various approaches are given that I never discussed this with anyone ( I worked alone with no contacts in the community).
Some of the names I used “ starry night” , “ weekend getaway” “ rock garden” and “ la vie en rose” ( I speak french too) .

I like your method of how you come up with a name for a piece. My last pendant/necklace was a black agate with strong druzy & some blue crystals…I named it ‘Starry Night, Blue Moon’. I’m getting better with practice, and it’s very helpful to have a community of fellow artists to discuss these topics with. Again, thanks very much!

For one, I think that it increases the perceived value, raising the jewelry piece to an art piece (although you have no problem there, your pieces are absolutely gorgeous and definitely works of art.) I generally play on the color, materials, and/or shape to come up with a name.

Like Lora said, it is much easier to talk about a piece when it has a name. Sometimes, just to give the name some pizzazz, I translate the English words into a foreign language.

Your eye and creativity are excellent! My designs pale in comparison; but to answer your question, yes, I usually name my creations unless they are simply for my pleasure. I found it was far easier if I gave them a name rather than to have folks try to explain what they saw/want.

On the naming thing, definitely yes. I once sold a pendant on etsy called “Genie in a Bottle,” because that’s what it reminded me of. When I saw the email address of the buyer, it was genieinabottle@[domain]. She had clearly been searching by keyword and it meant a sale for me.

Your pieces are absolutely beautiful! I love them, especially the beautiful colour of the lemon jade.

I do name my pieces. In my online store, I use description for the title, for search engine optimization, but then below, before I write the descriptive paragraph, I give the title of the piece in quotations, so people can see it right away. I like doing it, as I also enjoy creative writing, and I think people like names. But some of the names are very simple too, more descriptive than prose. 🙂
