Diane, the wire I’m buying is the same thing you would buy from a jewelry supply house. It’s all being stripped out of Nomex which is single or seperately wrapped untwisted, uncoated, strands of dead soft wire. If I were to buy a pound of twenty gauge wire in my local shop or from a typical on line vendor I would pay upwards of $18 – $24.

I’ve read that the majority of wire drawn is about thirty percent reclaimed. The fact that my work is made with 100% reclaimed material is important to me as an environmental issue as well as an appealing selling point.

First, is the wire kinked when you get it or has it been straightened? Is the wire soft, half-hard or hard? Do you have to anneal it before you can use it? Is there a coating on it that has to be removed? I’ve also read that commercial wire is not safe to use on human skin. Any truth to this? How much do you save by buying it this way? (Approximate percent) Hope I’m not being too nosey. 🙂 This is a great idea and obviously works for you so will be interested in your reply.

A creative way to save money on something you need and someone else no longer wants – everybody benefits. Also, I love your wirework on these long earrings! Thank you for sharing this great idea.
