I have also rubbed some plastic buttons with dirty grease (think car or machine grease) and then cleaned them up. I don’t know if that would work with MOP buttons.

I like it very much. For someone who says they are inexperienced in wirework, you’ve done an excellent job!

Regarding the rusting of mop buttons, maybe you could place some in a flat layer in a dish with a couple of pieces of wire that would rust laying on top. If you added a few drops of water and let the rusting process happen, leaving them in there for a while, maybe you’d get the desired result. It would be a fun experiment anyway!
