But my mommie side says, “Weren’t the old Monopoly pieces made of lead? Hope when you drilled them you were especially careful about not breathing in particles?”

Thought I would share a story I heard from a very successful jewelry artist who was teaching Marketing at a very large bead show in California. Years ago she made some “ugly earrings” to take out and try to sell to some stores. She wanted to look artsy so looked around and saw a small piece similar to yours that was from her daughter’s minature doll house. It was a little metal chair and she put it on a chain, and wore it with a plain black dress. She did eventually get to talk to a buyer that day, and the buyer wasn’t interested in her jewelry, but saw the necklace and wanted an order of those!

She was smart enough to say yes, and then ran all over town to get more minature chairs to fill the order. This lead to a series of small chairs she carved, had molds made of, and started selling. It grew until she had big stars buying them and $40,000 wholesale orders from expensive department stores.

I was facinated by her story and the irony of how she found her niche. Obviously she had talent and passion, but it all started in such an interesting way…

So I say run with the idea and see where it leads you.

Thanks,
Ann
