As long as the stones (coins) are loose enough to move with out jamming they should be fine.

I definitely consider anything 7 and up to be safe, I’d probably be ok with 6, depending on how I set them.

The weakest points are always sharp corners. Coins should be ok, especially if they are fully beveled on the edges. When I cut a cabochon, I take off the corner around the bottom by grinding a small bevel around that edge. I’ve never had a cab chip since…
