Here’s how to make a larks head knot, step by step.

I’m demonstrating this knot with a piece of leather cord and a hardware washer.

But you don’t have to attach your knot to a donut-shaped object.

You might attach it to a stick or a metal rod, or to another piece of cord, or to anything else you like.

Making a Larks Head Knot

First fold your cord in half:

Pass the folded cord end under the object you’ll tie your knot onto, making a sort of “loop” in the cord’s fold:

Now pick up the two cord ends, and bring them up over the object, and through the “loop” of the cord’s fold:

Grasp the two cord ends, and pull them tightly until the loop is snugged up against the object:
