I have now gone to using 550 paracord in a matching color (when possible) when doing kumihimo items with 6/0 beads. Definitely keeps them from “collapsing” inward during the process. Of course, nothing is easy when you start doing this, so I just braid a few “rows” of beads first and then push the paracord in the center with an awl to get it down to the bottom. Have to hold on to the paracord for a while (which makes for some unusual physical contortions briefly until the cord is secure). Since I also do paracord items: keychains, bracelets and lanyards – I have a large supply of paracord available to me.

Rena – will have to look into your suggestions – I am only starting to get into the wire coiling/wrapping. Thank you.

I also love the kumihimo process. There are so many possibilities between the disks, stringing materials & types of beads. Your pieces are lovely. I have not explored the Facebook groups, but may do so today. I currently have 3 kumi projects going! And more waiting to be finished with end caps & clasps.
Best wishes in your kumihimo journey.

I have used paracord for larger beads. Most of the time, I don’t fill the cord. With the right beads and cord as well as the correct tension, the cord does not usually collapse. There are several good kumihimo groups on Facebook that are helpful too.

I always love seeing your beautiful new designs. Great colors in these new pieces!

About the 6/0 beads, would either of these projects would fit in with your style?
