I sell simple wire sculptured pendants from a colorful glass bead with a matching colored ribbon displayed in a little gold box. Total cost to me: less than $2.00, 10-15 minutes of work time…sell for $10.00…also sell pendant and matching earrings for $15.00…builds my reputation and saves my time for custom orders…

These items can be quite inexpensive (stretch cord)and draw attention at shows. Little girls love to look and try on the pretty bracelets and necklaces. Grandmothers and Aunts love this for gift ideas. I am continually surprised at how much attention to my booth that this line of jewelry draws.

Ann, I’d love to hear whether repositioning your under-$20 items brings them to your customers’ attention and boosts your sales of them! I bet it will too! 🙂

Lots of food for thought here. I have some “under $20” items I have made from previous advise, but never thought to gather them at the check out spot… Rather they are scattered in their respective category areas and haven’t sold that well. In hindsight, they just blend in with the higher price items.

I am going to make a sign “handmade gifts under $20” and group them all together by the checkout and see if that helps. I bet it will!

I have a number of items that are under $10 including keyfobs, earrings, simple necklaces and dainty earrings for little girls. Because of the local economy, I find that these items sell the best and make sure that my booth fees are covered. I do offer some more expensive items, but find that they do not sell as well at local shows.

I have also found the allure of the “fer” deals. I make resin pendants in silver plated trays and offer a discount on 3. A lot of folks will start out with one, find a second that they like, and agonize on selecting that 3rd piece.

Thanks for all the tips and info that you provide on this site!
