I make specific items, and donate a portion, or all of the sale to the cause. I made a bracelet for domestic violence, in which proceeds were donated to Bridges, one for breast cancer, one for funds for Wounded Warrior Project, and some “thin blue line” jewelry to donate to the Officer Down Memorial Page, for police officers killed in the line of duty. I love doing things like this, but unfortunately, I never sell any “regular jewelry”, so I don’t make money to buy more supplies. I am sure I will be doing it again at some point. It really does feel good to give!

I use Kazuri beads from Kenya, paper beads from Uganda and sometimes Muzuri beads (made of barkcloth) in my designs for the same purpose. Purchasing these beads help the women in those countries support their families. And yes, customers enjoy hearing the stories behind the beads and I truly enjoy telling the stories.
