Stainless steel does not rust. Put the jewelry in the water, If you see a red or brown rust forming on the surface, it is likely the result of iron particles that have contaminated the surface of the steel. Take a look at the rusting and attempt to wipe it away with a rag using a solution made of even parts nitric and hydrofluoric acid. However, if the ring has rust on it, it is likely not 100% stainless steel.
If this workable?

Other than that, my only advise is to become familiar with stainless steel. Is there a hardware store or someplace you can get some stainless steel wire from? My 19G stainless wire came from a local tool store at a very good price.

If there is rust on the piece the next day you don’t have stainless steel.

I also use surgical stainless steel jumprings for my jewelry,….love it because it is hypoallergenic as well,
I order from a company in the US and they are made in the US as well so I trust their products ( nothing comes from China)
It is a great company with great service and their prices are pretty good also ( I buy packages of 1000 to get better savings) The company is called bluebuddhaboutique.com ( BlueBuddhaBoutique) just look under their listings for jumprings and find the section for stainless steel…. they also sell aluminum and other kinds of jumprings. They have a large selection of sizes and gauges. I have been ordering my supplies from them for over 3 years and have never had a problem with anything. If I get the wrong size they gladly let me return them and resend my proper size.
Hope this helps.
Tammy
