In reply to Diana White. I store all my nicer wire in pendaflex folders as you do, in a portable file box for convenience. This method has worked well for me for years. I also add a few silica gel packs to keep everything dry.

I use larger ziplock bags and pendaflex hanging file folders. Each folder is labelled for metal type. Argentium, Gold-Fill, Sterling, Titanium, Stainless Steel, Copper etc. Inside each folder is a ziplock for each type, square, round, half round, Pattern wire, ETC. Each coil in a bag has a tag attached by elastic thread which says what gauge it is. And each ziplock is labeled for metal and shape so when I take it out I’ll know where to file it back again. I have an entire filing cabinet drawer full of wire. But it is so simple to do inventory, and to know when I need to reorder a particular wire, because I take the empty bag out and set it next to my computer which is where I do my ordering.

Almost all of my wire is on 1-pound spools, so I bought a wooden ribbon dispenser rack from the local craft store and threaded the spools onto the dowels that form the racks. I have them sorted in order by gauge.

I suppose once I branch out into other metals than copper I’ll get another rack or two.

I put mine in zip plastic bags which I sort first by gauge, then by color/type of wire. With a sharpie, I write the gauge, type of metal, hardness, etc. on the bag. They all go into a rectangular box which is kept in a drawer. Easy to sort through, but I can also lift the whole box out if I want.

I have a 3 ring binder notebook,and I bought a plastic pouch insert with a zipper. I keep my Sterling Silver, Copper, Bronze and others that are not rolled up compactly there. It helps to keep the sometimes “unruly” wire organized, and I have another plastic pouch insert for my other wire which is smaller and rolled more neatly. I hope this helps!

I use fishing spool boxes to store my spools of wire. It keeps the spools from unraveling and a hole for each spool to pull the wire through. Here is an example of the kind I use: https://www.planomolding.com/prolatchr-line-spool-box. The ones that I have hold 4 large spools and I found mine at Walmart.

I buy para or artistic wire that comes on small plastic spools. I store them in a small plastic box with a lid. They are on their sides so I can see the colors and I stack them from thin 26g to thick 18g. I can get 3 rows of 8-9 spools each. The plastic box also help keep the air out so they stay bright.
