I then put chicken wire in the frame, and tied down the bracelets, necklaces and earring cards with zip ties. It is easy to hang on the wall, and displays the jewelry nicely, yet prevents anyone from removing the pieces without getting the consignment shop owner to cut them off.

I sell my jewelry in a co-operative gallery and we have had theft of large items as well as small. Small items need to be in visible areas. My jewelry is in a glass case by the front desk and it used to be locked, now I leave it unlocked as I felt it cumbersome for the person at the desk to open the case. I am not aware of any loss but it still looks like the case is locked. I have hung my and other artists jewelry in shadow box frames on the wall for special event displays but it makes the jewelry difficult to get to. We have found in the gallery that if you make it to hard to view your items you could lose sales as customers often will not ask for help. They may also think the items are out of their price range when they are so well protected.

Katie, thanks for sharing your display and how it works. That sounds like a good solution for the arboretum gallery.

I sell a few items in a gallery at a local arboretum. I use a large shadow box frame from Hobby Lobby that my husband modified to have a simple, delicate hook and eye chain (easy to screw into place). It’s not extremely secure but is more of a psychological deterrent. It prevents those who would steal from simply reaching in and pocketing an item because most shoplifting thefts are spur of the moment crimes. This way if someone is interested in a piece they must reach out and open the cabinet which also attracts the attention of the Naturalist on duty.

In a glass case would be better where the gallery owner would have to open it. We have a shop in Sutter Creek CA that has gorgeous jewelry and the high priced items are under glass with a lock that the owner or sales person opens. Try to see what kind of arrangement you can make with the gallery and see if they have anything like that. Just a suggestion…..
