I have done a few craft fairs and had my idea of what I wanted to price at and had to lower due to the clientile. I now screen better and keep my prices where I originally had them. I have an account with Etsy, but unfortunately have not but the amount of effort it needs to be up and running. A that has to change, and with posts like these I believe I will. Thanks again!

I am teaching basic jewelry techniques at a local craft store (and use their products in my designs) and am getting my teaching skills known to the public gradually. I do minor jewelry repair and teach it to my students so they can fix their own broken pieces rather than just pay to have it done (of course I do this also). I have pieces for sale available and wear my jewelry out to get exposure. I keep half-sheets in my purse of my classes with a list and pictures on it of what I teach. I am getting noticed and busier while I hone my skills and teaching instructions.

Depending on your designs you may want to check out hotel boutiques, fine jewelry stores. Remember though that when you go into shops that you are checking them out as much as they are checking into you. One thing I have learned is that I don’t want my name associated with shady business people. I have an image in mind so see that you begin with YOUR vision. One way to do this is to think of opening a shop that would feature your designs. Would it be high-end, shabby chic, or more casual and fun? Don’t consign unless you thoroughly check them out! You do not need to put your items in storage! It has taken me as much as 3 months to get paid chasing down the owner and this was a high-end shop in Cambridge! Be sure that if you do consign, you have a good contract…they are free online and you can edit them to your needs. I finally got paid when I referred to the contract line that stated she would have to pay my legal fees which I was preparing to incur! 🙂
Fairs are great, but you HAVE to able to take credit cards or you are wasting your time. You can do that with a smart phone and aps like Square, which I have used with great success and no problems.
I wish you the best of everything as you expand!

We have had great success getting into a nice gallery in our local area. I suggest you check out brick and mortar shops in your area such as galleries, gift shops, etc. who may be interested in exhibiting your work. I also suggest exploring the art and craft shows you may have in your area, and maybe think about being a vendor at a show. This has been great for us, and it is great exposure for your jewelry. Also, do you have business cards? This is another great way to advertise. Good luck!
