My granddaughter just lost one of her horses and she has asked me to help her make a bracelet with the hair from the horses tail. Can you please tell me if the hair is treated in any way, or how I could treat it, to keep it smooth and not fray over time.
Thank you, Truly enjoy your site.

Alysen, i try to make all of the hair one length so that there are no loose ends. If i have one or so sticking out, i generally pull those. I gather the hair from the very bottom of the horses tail and then tease the shorter ones up as far as i can. I never want to waste any of their tails. They need them! Lol Then i cut as close to the base of the tail as i can. The length, I dont worry too much about. After i braid it I’ll measure what i need and use the rest in something else. I have a video of it… ill just have to upload it

One question: I’d like to know how long a horse hair is? Your braiding is nice and tight and doesn’t look like my hair braid which has pieces sticking out.

I imagine many horse owners who board their horses would love to have jewelry made with hair from their beloved horse too. And I love how well wire and beads work with horse hair in jewelry designs!
