Honey bee bracelet closed

I have a friend who is deeply concerned with the plight of the honey bee, and for good reason.

Their numbers are dwindling, and if not for the honey bees we would soon be without food.

For her birthday I made her a kumihimo bracelet with a bee theme.

I wanted to use a honeycomb-type button, but everything I found that I liked was pretty expensive. So I got to work and attempted making one in polymer clay.

I tried using an unsharpened pencil to make the cells of the honeycomb, but they were bigger than I wanted.

I tried several other techniques and finally settled on using a hex key to make the cells, and I was pretty happy with the way it turned out.

I used varying shades of honey-colored beads for the bracelet and a sweet little bee charm.

The last touch was a single drop of honey (topaz-colored drop bead) added to the bee charm.

I haven’t given it to her yet, so please don’t give my secret away.
