As Lisa mentioned, everything was insured & we didn’t have to pay customs fees. I brought a small selection of tools & supplies with me because I knew it would be several months before we found our new home & our container arrived, & making jewelry kept me busy during the cold winter. I couldn’t bear to part with my treasures & now they are all with me here in France.

I will ensure to get insurance on your shipment with a tracking number. To avoid the shipping and customs queries, “it is my hobby” as well as my scrap book supplies;-)

I have been planning this move since August of last year. All of my supplies are being put in a shared container and shipped back to the states. All items in that container are insured. All my pieces are also going in this shipment.

I thought of bringing them on the plane with me, but I already am over allowance with clothes and what not. Shipping merchandise (finished items and supplies are considered merchandise) can lead to customs issues in the arriving country. I prefer to let my shipper handle those details. The only requirement of me is to be there when the shipment arrives. This is to avoid the customs fees. Good luck on your move.

Because it’s your work, you would most likely want insurance on your shipment with a tracking number. You never want to risk the chance of not only losing it – but never finding it.

Though that is something that rarely ever happens. Hopefully someone else has more insight and experience with traveling. =)
