The wire gauge is 0.4 mm, I dont go higher as it is not easy to crochet.
As for hook I use between 1.5 to 2.5 depending how tight or relaxed I want the texture. In this one I used 1.5.
From my experience it is easier to crochet artistic wire or nylon coated wire versus silver plated wire .Try artistic wire for the begining. Exercise at the begining till you are able to keep a consistency in your pattern , to dont look messy you need to have a consistent texture. Once you manage that, start to built more intricate desing.
Just an idea, crochet a rectangular piece width about 2 ” and lenght about 8 or 10 and then fold it , twist it , Insert beads with a lot of courage 🙂 for an abstract look…. this is how I started:)Now I can do a bit more than that:) Good Luck!
