The asymetry reflects the way shells are found on the beach. I have concerns about methods of drilling holes in shells. Drilling them in a dry environment creates dust that can cause silicosis when inhaled. A small tin can with a sponge covered with water to rest your shells on while drilling eliminates this hazard.
