They seem to be made from paper pulp and the outside colors appear to be decorated with paints or inks. The dark blue and copper tones remind me of a process of floating the color in water then dipping the bead to get random designs. Similar to Easter egg decorating. Finally the beads have a varnish. They actually are very striking.
