Make what pleases you and whatever makes you happy. I believe that some of that happiness goes into your work and attracts a buyer to it.
Trends are just a means of selling multiple soulless, repetitive gew-gaws to people who don’t know there are better, original alternatives.

I also never follow trends. I did that in my early days of making jewelry and ended up either selling them at a deep discount or donating them. So i just make what i think is pretty and hopefully people will buy them. It’s amazing what people like from year to year. I tend to have a little glitz in my jewelry. And I have made quite a few special orders that turned out really nice. So just do what is in your heart, what you love to make and that will show through when you do a show.

I never try to chase trends. I try to make things that match my personal aesthetic. That said, if a trend matches the things you like to make – GREAT!

Remember, it also depends on who your customer is. If you are selling to young women, they tend to be more of the trend followers. Older customers may be going for a more classic look… or for a trend they picked up in their own youth and never gave up!
