I can’t wait to visit the site! How great to use the skin of fish
( which is beautiful, actually) as well as the meat. Myself and all my family are avid fly fishers so I can see a great opportunity for jewelry gifts for them, made of fish leather. It’s THE BOMB!
Thanks again.

And, Julie – kelliesfineleathers on etsy carries some beautiful skins, as well as Stanley, my secret source! Unlike shark and stingray; seabass, salmon(my fav), carp, and perch are fairly malleable, and easy to cut and sew. Still tough though, as leather should be. I am making my Trio Purse design in fish leather too-each is a little artsy statement! Made 5, sold 4-fish leather grosses some folks out at first, but intrigues too! Love the eco-friendly vibe, and texture.

I love it! Where on earth do you get fish leather? I know there is ” shagreen” which is shark or ray leather, but sea bass? I love little baroque freshwater pearls. This is a fantastic use of them.

I used black 49 strand beading wire to attach my onyx beads to the fishy lips. The lips are backed by black fish leather too- glued and stitched at the edges, after I wired the coin pearls through. I made several fishy lips pieces for this client, including a different necklace with pink and red lips all around. It was her idea to add pearly “teeth” to ALL the lips!

However I am wondering how the beads are attached to the leather, and if there is any backing used with the leather to help retain the shape? Can u help me. Thx much

I had heard of fish leather but hadn’t seen it before. What an unusual idea for a necklace – and a great name for it! I’m sure your client gets comments on it all the time. Those pearls really do look like “pearly white” teeth. 🙂
