I asked how long it took her and paid her based on her time spend on the design. Using what minimum wage is and adding 2 to 5 dollars so if minimum wage is $10 I added $5 so I paid her $15 for every hour she worked on it and gave her a bonus for doing a great job. Hope that helps.

I gave them the font I use and the concept and they came up with 3 drafts. I could pick one and make changes once for the $20.

It was based on another design by the same artist so I asked her to modify using words specific to my medium. It took me about 2 months (very much on and off) of tweaking and I received it in jpg, tiff and a few other formats.

It is the creative process plus the technical process you would be hiring her for. Logo should look good on your website, letterhead, business card. If you are thinking of using it for signage it has to be created in a vector format so it doesn’t lose its pixel quality. Some designers make the mistake of creating it in photoshop and this will not blow up well (unless photoshop works in vector now, not sure). Logos I designed started at $800 and client was given 3 samples of which one would be chosen and then it is tweaked from there. Since she is creative but new at this her price should start at least $100 I think. My opinion only. She could be the next big designer and your logo would be worth mega bucks. Also, keep in mind you pay for the logo but the artist actually owns it. Strange, I know. Hope this helps.

Also, you may want to pop over to Etsy.com, and type this search into the search box there: “custom logo design”. You’ll see tons of logo listings and designs, and you’ll be able to do a lot of price comparisons.
