I don’t have a blog; no idea how I could make the time for that, in addition to my jewelry making & selling, musical endeavors and full-time job!! I will go back and read the rules. To keep things simple for my first contest, I did a random drawing, and the winner was an old friend who moved away years ago. It was lovely to reconnect with her, and inexpensive to ship the necklace.

Facebook does have quite a few rules and regulations to throwing a contest. If you were to host it on your blog, you could share the links that way. Good Luck!

I recently hosted a giveaway on my blog for a necklace. The main requirement was voting in a poll for which colors to use in an upcoming piece, with additional entries available for liking my Fb page, following my blog, or commenting on my blog.

from my own experience with an advertising degree and selling my own jewelry, I think the advice Linda offered above is probably the best approach I’ve tried.
I recently had a short-lived contest to give away a pair of earrings… I shared a photo of the earrings on FB page and friends’ walls (including my own) with a caption describing contest details.

I ran the contest for 2 days. Initially I stated that participants needed to “like” the photo AND share it on their wall. I received a large response, but so few performed both actions that I changed the rules to favor those who “promoted” me more. I had a drawing for the winner; each time they liked/shared/commented, they earned a point. Each point bought them one entry.

I manually kept track of each time a story was published, but if you search online for “create facebook contest”, you’ll see there are apps/websites that offer free/paid services to help keep track of the feedback you get. Good luck!…I’d be more than happy to help if you need it.

To win the earrings you had to
*share her post on facebook
*like her fan page
*and describe in a few words what your favourite gemstone is and why?
I won a pair of her earrings in a previous competition(run through another website) and the postage was only $4.50 posted from the US to Australia

Please carefully read as much as you can before you do this because they will shut your page down if you are not following their guidelines. Instead, I suggest using FB to drive people to your blog where you can hold all the contests you want and increase your followers there. Here is an article to get you started. socialmediaexaminer.com/facebook-promotions-what-you-need-to-know/

LOL I seen a successful drive for a tee shirt company on facebook. What they did was get their already existing members to see how many new people they could get for their site. Anyone new that joined the tee shirt site had to write on the wall and say who they had joined for. It got very exciting as it got down to two people competing for the prize of a tee shirt. It meant that these competing people had to get THEIR friends to pass on the link and plead/solicit for members. This probably sounds very confusing…… Anyway, the tee shirt facebook site ended up with a few hundred more people.

The prize (eg a piece of jewelery) has to be REALLY worth the effort for your friends to solicit THEIR friends to join your site. If you do this successfully you might have to keep score very carefully!

Then you get more promotional material…as long as you make it clear that by entering the contest, they give you permission to use their image.
