I love melting silver onto copper and using my torch to form the liquefied silver into various hills and valleys.

For this necklace, I punched a round copper disc using my disc cutter and then heaped and melted small scraps of silver onto it.

I looked at the finished design for a while before it “spoke” to me.

I decided it looked like a planet being born, which inspired me to add the smaller planets and the trails of silver (and it also inspired the name).

After I drilled a hold through the focal piece, I oxidized and added a chunky copper chain for contrast.

The focal piece is 1 1/4″ in diameter (and substantial with the amount of silver melted onto it), and the chain measures 17″.

I had a great time making this one.
