I have a tin of lace and ribbon scraps. I’m at a loss at what to do with most of it. Looks like there is some jewelery potential in there!

Lace is actually very easy to incorporate into jewellery because of the little holes between the threads or fibers. You just insert jump rings, in this case on each side of the flower, into the holes. Just make sure you go into the material far enough that it’s not going to pull apart (i.e. you don’t want to just have one thin weak thread). For this necklace I needed to atttach another jump ring to the one attached to the lace to have it going in the right direction for me to attach it to my string of pearls. So it’s just kind of playing with the placement until you get something you like, then seeing how you can attach it. In this case I attached it to a necklace I made independently.

You can also take wire, or whatever you’re stringing with, through a hole in the lace, under it, and back out again to attach a lace piece.

The main thing is making sure the area where the jump ring or whatever is attached is secure. Often I’ll put just a bit of clear nail polish or clear glue on the edge at this point to strengthen it. You don’t see it, and it adds security. In this case, I was adding silver glitter fabric paint to the edges and to highlight some parts of the lace anyway. The glitter had a double purpose – sealed the edges and made it prettier!

This is probably a silly question, but how have you attached the lace piece to the rest of the necklace?
