I just wanted to add that another reason to consider her suggestion is that people who don’t want to look at bags may not even realise jewellery is also on offer and just walk on by.

You must make it obvious what is for sale.

Three necklaces, four stands, each with a pair of earrings and two or three bracelets in the front with handbags on the sides.

Space, rather than item competition, is probably the biggest challenge here. Jewelry is small but needs space so as not to look cluttered. Maybe for the handbags, vertical (accessable) shelves or hanger poles on each side end of the booth and a few bags across a raised area at back of the table, then the front used for the jewelery, which people need to see closer up and try on? Depends on how you display your jewelry. When I buy a handbag, I also like to have a full mirror, so I can see how it looks when I “wear” it – length, scale to my body size, etc. Good luck with your joint venture!

I’m a glass artist, making dichroic glass jewelry and my friend had hand painted wine glasses (both glass). I thought the combination would blend well. She had half the booth and I the other and in the middle we mingled. It worked out well display wise. But in our case, her glasses contained lots “blingy” crystals, were large and colorful. If you know dichroic glass, it too is colorful, but since the pieces are so much smaller, it wasn’t noticed as much despite the color. She was just beginning her business and I wanted to help her out with “how to have a show”.

I think purses and jewelry will blend much better together. In fact, I was thinking of using pictures of purses in solid colors in acrylic slant stands and hanging a pendant on the top of the stand much like using a regular flat neck stand jewelers often use. Only this would have a picture behind it. I thought it would show the versitility and trendiness of my jewelry displayed with other fashion trends. The only better option would be to have all those wonderful bags in person to help show off my jewelry!

Just make sure your jewelry is not laying flat and is elevated at different levels like suggested earlier. I think you will do fine and you will compliment each other well. Good luck.

When we do craft shows we intermingle our works, as they compliment each other. The hard part is finding a way to display your jewelry so that it pops on its own 🙂

I think the idea of keeping them seperate and then have a space in between showing the items that coordinate a great idea. Also the idea of having them at different levels would really catch the eye. I will keep all this in mind for my next show.

My husband & I have a small business where I make the handmade jewelry and we both shoot nature photography. I believe the two separate arts work well being shown together at shows. Having two separate items brings more people around the booth & opens up dialogues which might not have happened had there only been one venue to see. Good luck to you!

That gives you the opportunity to show items partnered up and each type of item on its own. Best of luck!

And yes, the jewelry does get overpowered by the purses, simply/mainly because of the size differences. We solved the problem by splitting our booth space in half, but we also try to display a couple of the purses that coordinate with a couple of pieces of jewelry. That way we look like a cohesive unit in our booth.

Either have the jewelry on a stand above the handbag so the sparkle catches the eye and draws them in.
The down side, is that many people who go in to look for jewelry or a handbag, don’t always want to buy the other and may feel like it’s expected (since it all matches, and is displayed together) and be frightened off by the cost of the ‘whole set’. Perhaps have the jewelry itself displayed separate, but get busy with a camera and colour printer, and place a picture of the matching item with it. It wouldn;t have to be a big picture, about the size of a business card perhaps. You could fit several on a single sheet to print, and of course, after wards, you’d have the photos to keep a record of your work and sales together 🙂

It is difficult for some people to match up coordinating pieces that work together and you are helping them out. I would definitely have areas that specifically display handbags and jewelry also. So, If you are setting up a table at a show, have handbags on one side, handbags and jewelry together in the middle and jewelry at the other end. Varying heights provides interest and catches the eye of customers but don’t make your display too ‘busy’.

We are planning to showcase our pieces in the windows, hold monthly open studio events and be available for custom orders. But mostly, it is our studio. We have pretty much drawn a line down the middle of the room and we display our pieces separately. That might be one approach to take. Maybe have some pieces together and some separate? Good luck! It is definitely challenging sharing a work space.
