Display Cases for Jewelry – Made from Art Supply Cases

Display case for jewelry, created by transforming a wooden art supply case
Having artsy kids, we have several wooden artist supply sets around the house. These make great display cases for jewelry that are easy to set up and pack up.
Since my kids never actually keep their art supplies in the lovely wooden cases, emptying one out for my purpose was no problem.

After the case was emptied, I then measured the inside of the case and cut out two pieces of heavy cardboard in that size. I covered my cardboard with fabric. Pulling tightly, I attached the fabric in the back side of the cardboard using a glue gun.
I then stretched ribbon across the fabric covered board, and again attached it using a glue gun.
I placed the cardboard pieces into the wooden case and voila, an earring display on one side.

Detail of how bracelets are hung on the other side of the case
I use business cards to print out my earring cards and bend down 1/2 inch of the card to hang on the ribbon.
If you find your ribbon sagging once you place your earring cards on, you can glue the ribbon down between where your cards will hang.
Since I also do bookmarks and memory wire bracelets, I attached small wooden dowels across the other side of the jewelry display case to hang these items.

I have attached bricks to the back of the wooden display case (ensuring the wind doesn’t get the best of me) using industrial Velcro.
So when I am ready to pack up I just remove the bricks, close and lock the case, and I’m ready to go.
Just remember to keep the jewelry case upright and you will always have your display all set for your next show.

Debbie, this is such a beautiful, useful and clever repurposing idea! And the makeover you’ve given the inside of the case is just gorgeous.
Thank you so much for sharing this fantastic idea with us!

This is a great idea. You made a beautiful finish. Extending, this same idea can be used with old tray too, I think. But you gave us the idea. Thank you so much.

Fabulous Idea

I saw these at Michael’s a month ago and was trying to figure out how I could use them to ‘carry’ around my jewelry. This has fueled the idea and now I can safely carry the jewelry along as I visit potential clients.
Awesome!!!!

Being not so handy with tools, I was surprised I made something similar hinging 2 frames together, backing them with cardboard, fabric and installing dowels. It’s flimsy but it works. I like your much much better, since you can snap together and go.
I would LOVE it if you made me one. If you have the time to make one for me to purchase, please email me:)

what a great idea

What a great idea for a portable display. I have to look out for some of these! I made an earring display using two wooden picture frames, but it was really difficult to attach the hinges to them , using a box like this is so much easier. Thanks for sharing.Helen

Good idea for the display case but for the earrings you could run a piece of eyelet lace across and hang the earrings from that too.
