I designed this handmade custom cross. It starts with a hammered base copper frame.
I use 28 gauge dead soft copper wire to form the weave on 22 gauge base wires.
This process takes about 10 hours while incorporating a hand cut Lapis Cabochon by using a netting wire weave. It is accented with 16 silver beads.
Then I shape and hammer the finding to attach to the leather cord.
I finish off the process by hand making the leather pouch for the completed gift.
I came up with the process while designing a special cross for a fellow student in art school at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. He had given me a few stones and asked me to come up with a design for his mother’s gift and the process began.

I have also included a picture of my silver bead version.
