Buckstitch Baby

Buckstitch Baby

This is a large piece of turquoise bezel set in sterling silver. The piece is accented with leather buckstitching. The pendant is made with a bail large enough to slip off the tigerwood beads.

I had other plans for this piece, surrounding the turquoise with small bezel set cubic zirconia. I had the holes drilled, ready for the tube settings, but I didn’t feel right about it.

I decided to sleep on it. This doesn’t happen often, but I sat up in bed a few hours later with the idea of the buckstitch and how it could compliment the turquoise.

I wasn’t quite sure how I was going to make it work, but the next few hours at my kitchen island turned out this little beauty.

I haven’t ever been really ‘multi-media’ artist, but this opened my mind to other materials to use in my work.

Shelagh, I absolutely love this. Your leather buckstitch edging adds a fabulous, rugged artistry to this totally Western pendant! It’s a beautiful, uncluttered design with lots of style.

I could see a silver cuff bracelet edged in buckstitching too.

Thank you for sharing it with us!

thanks

Thanks so much, that means a lot coming from you. I love it when I get one of those ‘inspired’ moments & it works out.

I’ll totally work on the cuff for some shows this spring!

Thank you again,

Shelagh

Shelagh –

Turquoise is my all-time favorite! It’s been a long time since I’ve seen something that knocks my socks off and this necklace certainly does that! It’s beautiful. So simple & elegant, yet rustic and Southwestern cowgirl-up! Very unique too. Kudos!
