Thank you for teaching us all how to do this without wanting to put our heads through brick walls! I finally got my sunstone pendant done and can wear it today. The pics, the measurements, and the simple step-by-step instructions really ran all over other sliding knot tutorials, covering all the missing pieces they lacked. THANK YOU!!! XO

Hi Vivian, I have never experimented with that type of cord with this project. Whenever you wonder whether a technique will work with a particular type of component, here’s the best thing to do:

First do a test run on a small scrap or sample of your component. Then you can see how the technique will (or won’t) work on the sample, without ruining your actual piece. Another benefit of doing the test run on a scrap first – you’ll probably discover some things about the technique that will help you get better results when you do the technique on your actual component! Please let us know how it turns out!

Do you think it will hold? Or do you need leather for the friction so it doesn’t slip? Thanks for the tutorial!

Thanks for asking, Glenda! You are correct – the adjustable sliding knots are NOT likely to untie themselves. Alternatively, a good necklace design that would pull open easily as a safety feature would be a chain or cord with clasp attached by a jump ring of a gauge that would pull open easily. Or use a magnetic clasp. I hope this helps! πŸ™‚

Robert, I’m so glad to hear this tutorial was a breakthrough for you! Thank you for letting me know. I don’t have a formula such as you mentioned, but I would simply cut a length of cord that’s about 4x your wrist measurement. Then create the bracelet and trim off the excess ends. Then measure the amount of cord you cut off. Subtract the cut off length from the total length (the 4x wrist measurement) and you’ll know how long of a cord to cut in the future for that 7″ bracelet.

I can now delete the other post that didn’t come close to your tutorial. The tutorial made it so simple and easy to follow. I plan to use this for a leather/ bead bracelet. Do you have formula the I can use to determine the length of cord to use for this application? The circumference of my wrist is 7″.
Thank you very much and I look forward to your reply.
Robert.

Cameron, thank you! I recommend that you contact some of the major jewelry suppliers and ask which of their cords they recommend for waterproof purposes.

One question though, if I wanted the necklace to be waterproof what type of string/cord should I use?

I was able to use this knot to make a bracelet that can fit around my hand but also tighten to fit my narrow wrists lol. Thanks!!

Like a couple other commenters, I am bothered by the little hanging bits left at the knots. I was thinking of cutting them fairly close and gluing a little bead on to keep the end from sliding through the knot. Have you ever tried this? Do you know what kind of glue I should try?

My sister bought me a lovely pendant with our mother’s ashes in it , they just sent a silk cord to hang it on. Now I can adjust the cord and slip it on easily.

Hi Christine, after making the knot on the first side, you can flip the necklace over (like you’d flip a pancake to cook the second side of it) and make the knot on the second side exactly the same way, without having to retrain your hands to tie the knot in a different direction. πŸ™‚ That’s how I did it on the finished necklace you can see in several photos in this tutorial.

I too had great success with these clear and detailed directions. However, I did get confused when it was time to tie the second knot. I kept tying it backward, so the two short ends were not heading in opposite directions. Would you consider one more photo and set of instructions: How to turn the half-completed necklace so that the second knot is heading in the right direction?

If I’m the only one with this difficulty, then never mind. Thank you for your help,
Christine

Linda, thank you for letting me know you got lost before the second knot. After you finish the first knot, simply make the same knot on the other end of the necklace. Please let me know if this works for you, or if you still need more help! πŸ™‚

It was all great until the second knot. There was no photo so I couldn’t figure it out,
